Experiences
This is not my 1st class on typography, but it definitely won't be my last. Typography is such an essential part of our everyday lives and we don't always realise it. I use to despise typography, and i still do. But I can't deny that i've learned a lot, not only about typography and all its wonders, but also of myself and how I view typography. Although not all the work that I've presented i would consider good, there are a few that i'm especially proud of. I've missed a few nights of rest and sleep because of this module, but i'm sure it was worth it as i've grown to hate it a little less.
Observations
Throughout the entire semester, I've seen people grow, true personalities come through and seen some people break down because of typography. Typography is not an easy class, there are rules, specifics and limitations that hinder out creativity. But that didn't stop the class from pushing through the entire semester. I realised that during the printing phase of project 2 collaterals that many of the students in class had little to no experience when it came to printing on unconventional materials. I, knowing that if no one helped most of them would have trouble, lent a hand and made sure i helped wherever i could. In the end, the ones that i helped manage to complete everything on time.
Findings
I found that throughout the semester, not to make any assumptions, but most of my last minute work were easily accepted as submissions, while work that i've put effort and some form of research in was rejected. I'm not sure why this is, but my theory is that when you think about it, you tend to overthink it, but when in need, the creative juices flow and something amazing comes of it. Even with that said, I don't think doing everything last minute is the ideal way of working, so i'll do my best to curb myself of that behaviour. Lastly, through the final project, i found more ways to play and design with color and text. I've learned a lot from the final project and intend on using the skills acquired in the near future.
